Mindy Kaling’s show featured a hilarious send up of supermarket self check-out this week, complete with robotic warnings and flashing lights:

I love efficiency. I also like independence. So self check-out is a very appealing idea: rather than wait in a long line for a person to scan your items, you simply walk up, scan your own items, pay and bag your items as you see fit. But noooo! The machine tells me that I have and extra item in the bagging area, it warns me to put my item on the conveyor, and then has some error that requires a manager’s assistance. Invariably, self check-out leaves me frustrated and feeling like I’ve lost valuable time. Like Mindy says, it’s a scam.

What do you think? Does self check-out save you time?
